Cheap and genuinely strong on steel; useless on frameless or plastic-framed glass where there's nothing ferrous to grab, so test a magnet on the frame before you build around it.
- Tension across the cabin. A thin steel cable or a spring-loaded tension rod run wall to wall behind the front seats holds a curtain, and can even prop lightweight panels, with zero permanent modification. It's the rental-friendly, leave-no-trace choice, and the one to reach for if you don't own the car or don't want to drill anything.
Match the fastener to how much you want to commit and how often you'll use the rig. Snaps for a permanent build you'll live in for weeks at a time; hook-and-loop or magnets for an occasional setup; a tension rod and curtain for a car you want to leave exactly as you found it. You can also mix them — friction panels in the snug side windows, snaps on the stubborn tailgate, a tension curtain across the front. The goal is the same everywhere: hold the cover flat to the glass with no gap at the edge.
Condensation and ventilation: airflow and overnight upkeep
